The Person
My name is Eldon, or Nathan. I am a birder, photographer, and coder all rolled into one. I have too many hobbies to count and decided to start this blog / website to document my adventures and what I’m learning about each of these things. Starting off, I’ll include birding, photography, aquarium keeping (both saltwater and freshwater), and growing mushrooms! Hopefully, I’ll be able to expand this into other branches of naturalism and whatever else I manage to get myself into.
The Hobbies
- Photography – Around two years ago, I started photography. I’ve been having a great time, but I am nowhere near the level I want to be. With enough practice, my goal is to get published somewhere. In 2023, I won Honorable Mention in the wildlife category of the New Mexico Magazine Annual Photography Contest.
- Aquariums and Fish – I had to take down all my tanks, but I’ve been preparing to restart my 35-gallon freshwater tank. Hopefully, not to long after that I can get a 55-gallon saltwater tank up and running. I plan to keep my research and perhaps a log of how the set-up goes here.
- Birding – I started birding around two years ago and have no desire to stop. It’s just Pokémon for adults, and I love it. My life list is currently at 425. You can check out my eBird if you’re curious!
- Fermenting and Fungi – Pending…. well time…
- Coding and Game Development – I work in IT, but spend a lot of my free time doing all sorts of network and systems administration stuff as well as coding applications and small games. My brother and I are working on an evolution simulator and have already published our own iteration of Particle Life written in C# and Unity.
